The article examines the critical issues related to the proposed amendments to Law 55/2024, which established the professional order for pedagogical and educational professions. The author highlights the lack of involvement of major professional associations, such as APEI, in the ministerial review process. The editorial warns against a “regression” that could undermine the original spirit of the law, leading to reduced professional autonomy, loss of specialized identity, and the marginalization of field-based expertise. It concludes with a call for “pedagogical vigilance” to protect education as a common good and ensure the professional integrity of educators and educationalists.
