The Training of Educators and Educationalists in the Context of the Establishment of the New Professional Order

Abstract

The deadline for the initial registration in the lists of those entitled, aimed at the establishment of the registers of socio-pedagogical professional educators and pedagogists, is 31 March 2026—this deadline has already been extended several times. Law 55/2024, which establishes the regulated professions of socio-pedagogical professional educator and pedagogist, introduces a profound change not only to the field of educational professions, but to the entire sector of social professions and socio-educational, social care, and socio-health services. Among the changes introduced, the one that primarily concerns university pathways is the recognition of qualifying value to the degree in Educational Sciences (L19). This essay aims to bring to the discussion table some elements intended to suggest, to those responsible at the university level, the perspective towards which to orient university study programmes in light of the aforementioned legislation.
